Partnering to Change Lives in Mbita, Kenya

 Fence for a Permaculture Garden

The people of Mbita are facing a severe drought, and one part of the VNHC project is a Permaculture garden to provide food for orphans attending the Mercy School. In 2011 World Dance donated $1,070 to build a fence around the garden to keep out large animals. World Dancer Jill Brouillard, owner of Fresco’s restaurant (a Santa Barbara favorite), hosted a benefit night for the Mbita project.

Nursing Scholarship for Jen Amondi

VNHC also sponsors a Nursing Scholarship program. In 2011 World Dance raised $4,000 to send Jen Amondi – a nurse’s aide at the Viagenco clinic  — to a 3-year coursein Community Health and Development. Her studies include health education, epidemiology and the eradication of common diseases such as malaria, typhoid, and HIV.  Jen has four children and a husband who is unable to work. The Santa Barbara nurses who have met Jen admire her intelligence and nursing skills. She works all hours and is devoted to the success of Viagenco. She is very deserving of our support, and World Dance, once again with Fresco’s help, will help raise the $4,000 needed to send Jen to the 3-year course.
